Idleness

Idleness

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

– Matthew 26:26-29

And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.”

– Luke 17:26-30

As I live,” says the Lord God , “neither your sister Sodom nor her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done. Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit.”

– Ezekiel 16:48-50

Idleness can be defined as “a state of inactivity and inaction; to be lazy and indolent.”

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”

– I Timothy 4:1-5

It takes around 21 days to form a habit!

How long will you slumber, O sluggard?”

– Proverbs 6:9

The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.”

– Proverbs 13:4

The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.”

– Proverbs 20:4

The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who can answer sensibly.”

– Proverbs 26:16

God promises to bless the work of your hands! God blesses work and not laziness!

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.”

– II Thessalonians 3:10
